You will be offered a variety of tests during your pregnancy, including blood tests and ultrasound baby scans. These are intended to help make your pregnancy safer, check and assess your and your baby's development and wellbeing, and screen for specific conditions. You are not required to take any of the tests; it is entirely up to you. However, understanding the purpose of all tests is critical so that you can make an informed decision about whether to have them. You can talk to your maternity team about it. During your antenatal appointments, you will be asked to provide a urine sample. Your urine is tested for a variety of factors, including protein. If you find this in your urine, you may have a urine infection. It could also be an indication of pre-eclampsia.
